8 Count Sinawali Chart

Ok, so in my last post I wrote about my new fitness program, and I discussed a chart that I designed for the Heaven 6 sinawali, or in fact any 6 count sinawali. In this post, I am including a chart I designed for an 8 count sinawali. Hope you find it useful.

As you can see on the chart, I have listed four grids at the top which will allow you to write in moves from similar sinawali if you want to see them all on one page. The diamond shape in the middle is for strike angles. The man in the middle is for marking target areas. The boxes on either side are the movements of the sinawali, and the lines coming off are for your notes. The outside columns are for add ons that can make the sinawali more complex, while the inner lines are for notes that remind you of proper techniques. The music staves at the bottom are drum staves that allow you to insert whatever rhythmic pattern you want to work on . There is a reminder to put a key signature because a complex key signature can really throw off an opponent. And finally down at the bottom is a color coding system, so you can use markers to color code each strike by coloring in the number or outlining the box, which will tell you where you want that particular strike to land.

Hope this helps. I'll be trying to get a 10 count cart up soon.

Escrima/Arnis/Kali Chart for Sinawali

So this year, I wanted to get into shape. I started a new diet (actually, I've tried four different diets this year) and I've lost about 20 lbs, trying to lose about 40 more pounds total. And one of the things that I've added to help my heart is an exercise program. I am doing a weekly additional exercise program. The first week I started by doing 100 jumping jacks, the second week, I added sit ups/crunches (I alternate) and I'm trying to work up to 100 of those. The third week I added planks, which hopefully will work up to 100 of those a day. And one of the other things I've been doing is adding a martial arts training for sword/stick fighting from a martial art called Modern Arnis (aka Escrima or Kali).

So there's a really cool guy on Youtube who calls himself Wmpyr, who makes great Escrima videos. If you want to learn how to do sword fighting, he's your man. You can check out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/user/wmpyr

Anyway, so I came up with a chart that will help me learn my sinawali weaves and I am uploading it for you. I also have included drum rhythm staves, to help develop rhythm when training.

Here it is!

I'm also working on an 8 count sheet that can be used as well.

Why I don’t think Zoroaster influenced Daniel:
-          The Zoroastrian sacred texts (the Avesta) were supposedly written down in 346-360 AD, though the earliest copies we have are from the 1200’s. There are references to Zoroastrian belief as late as Plutarch in AD46 – AD120, who believed Zoroaster lived at 6,000 BC, which is ridiculous.
-          What we know about Zoroaster was written down at least 929 years after he was supposed to have lived. We don’t know anything specifically about him that comes from the time in which he lived.
-          Zoroaster was supposed to have died in 583 BC, which would put him contemporaneously with the prophet Daniel, though they claim that he wrote the Avesta sometime before the 10 Century BC. It is ridiculous to believe the Zoroaster lived from 1000 BC to 583 BC that would make Zoroaster over 400 years old.
-          Many claim that the stories of Jesus were based on Zoroaster, however, the stories of Zoroaster were written down in 346-360 AD, 300 years after Jesus lived. Isn’t it more conceivable that Zoroastrian similarities to Jesus were based on Jesus, since they were written down 300 years later?
-          Many of the stories about Zoroaster are similar also to Daniel, and we know that the earliest references to Daniel are at the latest within a couple hundred years of when Daniel lived. Doesn’t it make sense that maybe Zoroaster was based on Daniel, and not the other way around?
-          Babylonian and Persian society was polytheistic before Daniel. Many of the Persian kings were descended from Esther. Monotheism developed in Israel first before Persia, and history shows that for a fact that Babylon conquered Israel, bringing monotheism in contact with Babylonian religion. The Babylonians were overthrown by the polytheistic Persians, who were then brought into contact with the monotheistic Jews. After Persian contact with Jews Persians became monotheistic. We can’t prove that Zoroastrianism as we know it today even existed at the time of the Jewish captivity in Babylon, therefore, wouldn’t it make sense that the Monotheistic elements of Zoroastrianism came from Daniel, and not the other way around?

Little Red Lark

Hey everyone,

Here is the new song for today: Little Red Lark, a happy little fiddle tune!  Notice, the gray lettering above is the link. I know a few people expressed their displeasure because they were not able to find the pdf. If you click on the Gray lettering it will take you to the pdf. Although, I am equally thrilled if you click on the book below and buy my book too! :)

But just in case you can't find it, I decided to post the link below too. You can copy and paste this into your browser and it will take you there:

And finally, I just want to say thank you so much for the people who are buying my books. I wish I could tell you what a blessing it is for me to write something, and then to hear how it has been helpful to you either to learn how to play, to inspire you to learn more, or to try something new with your mandolin. I really appreciate all of you.

God bless,

Willy

2nd Version of Bonaparte's Retreat

Here's a second version that I found of Bonaparte's Retreat. I believe this is the older version, as it was recorded in O'Neill's "Music of Ireland" under the same name. This is not the popular bluegrass version, but is an interesting version to play as well.

I am posting these songs to celebrate the release of my brand new book "Mandolin Dead Man's Tuning vol. 2: English, Scottish and Irish Ballads!" I am so proud of this book. It is by far my best work to date. I hope you enjoy the songs. I set it up so that alternate tuning players, standard players and beginners can all get something helpful out of it!

You can download Bonaparte's Retreat 2 here!

God bless,

Willy
